Bankinter S.A., is a Spanish commercial bank founded in 1965 as a joint venture between Banco Santander and Bank of America, neither of which is currently an owner. In 1972 it became fully independent of its founders and floated on the Madrid Stock Exchange, where its shares became one of the components of the IBEX 35. Bankinter is currently the sixth-largest listed banking group in Spain.
Bankinter S.A. is a financial institution whose corporate purpose is the performance of banking activity. As a bank, it is subject to supervision from the Bank of Spain and from the National Stock Market Commission; it is also registered as number 30 in the Official Banks and Bankers Register.
