Founded 1993 as "Prva komunalna banka", Dexia-Kommunalkredit Group became majority shareholder in 2000. In 2003 the name was changed to "Dexia banka Slovensko”. The bank benefits considerably from its strategic partners as they strengthen its position in the Slovak banking market mainly through long-term financing programmes, public projects and access to the world financial markets. Holding a market share of app. 70% in the public sector in Slovakia, Dexia banka Slovensko acts primarily as a provider of finance for local authorities and utilities, but also provides the complete range of financial services and products to individuals and corporates. In addition the bank is heavily involved in financing development programs of local authorities, housing and environmental programmes. Dexia banka Slovensko ranks high among middle-sized financial institutions and also among “the top ten” commercial banks in the Slovak market.
