The origins of Lombard Bank Malta date back to 1955, when Lombard North Central of the UK was active in deposit taking in Malta through a number of agents. This arrangement was formalised in 1969 when Lombard Bank (Malta) Limited was registered as a wholly owned subsidiary of Lombard North Central plc. Today the Bank is privately owned with the single largest shareholding (circa 43%) held by Marfin Popular Bank Public Company Ltd. of Cyprus.
