Description:

NORD/LB is one of the ten leading banks in Germany. The business policy of the bank is concentrated on Northern Europe and on North-East Europe.

NORD/LB functions as the Landesbank for the federal states Lower Saxony and Saxony Anhalt. It also acts as the central bank for 62 savings banks in Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

NORD/LB is Germany's top bank for national and international bond issues. It offers a wide range of financial services to its private, corporate and institutional clients and to the public sector.

The main areas of specialisation of NORD/LB are investment, agricultural and real estate banking, corporate finance, ship and aircraft financing and private banking.

In Braunschweig, NORD/LB can boast a regional savings bank tradition stretching back over more than 241 years.

NORD/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale, with a staff of 5,563 employees and a consolidated balance sheet total of 201.5 billion euros, is one of the leading commercial banks in the north of Germany, with the focus of business activities on North and North East Europe.

As an international commercial bank, NORD/LB maintains a presence in all the major financial and trading centres, including London, Singapore and New York. It has representations and service offices worldwide and a network of more than 1,500 correspondent banks.

Some of the NORD/LB divisions can look back on history lasting almost 2 1/2 centuries. And yet their enterprise is young in its thinking and acting.

NORD/LB has worked out a new business model which has been approved by the Supervisory Board and the Board of Management and is now being gradually implemented.

Aim

The model aims at a sustainable improvement in profitability and at securing refinancing now that the guarantors' liability has been cancelled. The following core target figures have been defined:

  • Pre-tax return on equity (ROE) of at least 11%
  • Core capital rate of at least 7%
  • Cost-income ratio (CIR) of less than 50%

Vision

With its new business model, NORD/LB, in association with the savings banks, would like to further reinforce its market leadership in business with retail and medium-sized corporate customers. At the same time NORD/LB is aiming at advancing the special financing line of business in awareness of the risks involved. The bank wishes to achieve an economically-attractive core bank position with selected commercial and investment banking products for a limited number of national and international corporate and institutional customers. As a bank operating on an international scale, NORD/LB intends to be present for its customers in Asia, North America and North-East Europe in future too.
