Kaupthing Bank is a Northern European bank offering integrated financial services to companies, institutional investors and individuals. The Bank operates in all of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) and in 6 other countries in Europe (the UK, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany and the Isle of Man), as well as the US, the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC). In Denmark, Kaupthing Bank operates under the name FIH Erhvervsbank.
Kaupthing Bank acquired Pankkiiriliike Sofi Oyj in 2001, its first acquisition in Finland, as a part of Kaupthing Bank’s efforts to establish its presence in the Nordic region. In December 2004, the company was granted a banking licence, and the name was changed to Kaupthing Bank Oyj. In 2008 Kaupthing Bank Oyj merged with its parent company Kaupthing Bank hf. and became a branch office.
